"It is where creations deemed too dangerous to be allowed free reign on the star are kept."

Why they are being kept and studied rather than simply unmade is something that Lahabrea does not immediately mention. Should Hythlodaeus ask he might, but he hardly means to spill all of Pandaemoniums secrets if it shouldn't be necessary. (And even if doing so is almost certainly moot now, given what little he has heard of the world as it stands beyond his current 'present'.)

"But as to the phoinix, do you mean this iteration, or the concept as it was intended?"

He has noted the tone of Hythlodaeus' voice, too. He isn't quite sure how to respond to it, but he doesn't seem to be asking Hythlodaeus to stop either.

There's a nod at Hythlodaeus' words. There is truth enough in the fact that such information as can be gleaned from the nature of the phoinix itself may well be beneficial. Similarly, while he knows the phoinix well enough ensuring that at least some of those around him also do surely cannot but help.

"Like the perfected creation, it is a being of flame, capable of controlling that same element. However unlike later iterations it is a being of rage. One of violence and anger."

Something that is not likely to be terribly comfortable, when it is also capable of manipulating flame itself.

"Thus far, I have noted no change in my emotions. But it is possible that such inclinations may yet come forth."

Though they will also be tempered by the long centuries of practice at controlling his emotions.

"I have every intent to."

He knows, rather unfortunately, what a more emotional version of himself might look like. And that is nothing he wants to yield to, no matter how much the Natural Soul he has been saddled with tries to mold him into being that very thing.

Though he hopes it will not, for all that he knows absolutely nothing of the process by which they have been and are being altered.

"But I shall keep your offer in mind all the same."

He has not often come to people for assistance in one manner or another. But even so, he cannot imagine Hythlodaeus would have offered had he not meant it.

There's a considering pause before Lahabrea answers, as he takes stock of what little he can tell by feel alone. True, he knows well enough what he looks like, but his Corruption is not yet so advanced as to be showing physical signs under most normal circumstances.

"The feathers are the greatest discomfort."

Given that many of them are being forcibly made to conform to the shape of his robes and the high collar he wears besides. It might not be severe discomfort, true. But it is still noticeable all the same. As is something else besides. Something that does not feel like the discomfort of feathers being bent out of shape.

"Though there is something else besides."

Something that is, at the very least, not outwardly visible. Though if nothing else that he has directly acknowledged might prove enough to make it more likely for him to disrobe sufficiently for that additional oddity to be made visible.

"I cannot say for certain. Not without seeing for myself."

He can guess, a little, thanks to his familiarity with the phoinix in question. But as Hythlodaeus bears the souls of morbol and elpis flower both, neither is he entirely ruling out the possibility that his own changes might be drawing on more than one source. Even if he has not seen anything thus far to suggest it.

"However, the change in question is centered here."

He indicates the middle of his chest, and therein likely lies the problem. Whatever it is is no doubt no much comfortable being under his robes than the feathers he bears.
abyssalflames: (mmm not sure I like that)

"I see no reason for you to do so."

Hythlodaeus has already seen Lahabrea bared to the world, after all. Though he is still not particularly inclined to do so in public. Yet it is as Hythlodaeus says - there is but one way to know for sure. And he supposes it's not as if he'll be the only bared to the waist.

He takes off his outer robe with the same stark efficiency as he had on the previous occasion Hythlodaeus has seen him bare. True, it raises the question of what to do with it afterwards, and Lahabrea eventually settles on laying it by his feet but it does indeed answer a number of question. Most immediately noticeable is the fact that not only is a significant amount of both arms covered in the same black and red feathers but also his neck, something that surely cannot been comfortable. His chest however, is bare... or at least bare of feathers. Instead, in the middle of it there rests a gleaming red patch of skin, in the very center of which rests a small but unmistakable eye - though it differs from the organ that rests in a similar place on the phoinix itself. If only in the fact it matches the red of Lahabrea's own eyes.

There's a blink from Lahabrea, but for all that the eye does - somewhat - appear to be tracking Hythlodaeus' hand, neither does he directly object. It's strange, certainly, to know that Hythlodaeus could likely cause him significant discomfort should he wish, but he trusts that Hythlodaeus will not be so inclined.

As for the skin around the eye it... mostly feels like the rest of Lahabrea's skin - if the eye is capable of closing there is no direct indication of it.

"It is not capable of sight through normal means. Rather it appears to see both aether and souls."

Which does explain some of why he's been developing that ability, too, for all that he is still capable of it when not Shifted.

"As to its presence, the phoinix itself has a similar organ at the center of its chest. Though it differs in appearance to this."

"In a sense. It was meant to be particularly sensitive not only to aether but to souls. Though neither was it deliberately created with the ability to see souls."

Still though, it's not any surprise that the same sensitivity should manifest in him as soul sight. Even if it has taken a moment to grow accustomed to the fact that he is now able to, be it for good or ill.

There's a blink from Lahabrea at the question, and that alone should say volumes about how much he has had to deal with this, previously. Not that it's something that is any less important for it, but still, he has not had reason to consider it. Or even that it might have been a possibility, for all that he is more than familiar with the phoinix itself.

"I had not given it much thought. Though as it is yet an eye, perhaps it remains capable of shutting?"

It doesn't seem so, admittedly. But it's not like Lahabrea has made any significant attempt to try to, either.

"It has not been present before just now."

And even then he hadn't really stopped to consider quite what it might have meant to have something like an eye in the center of his chest. Not until just now, and he certainly hasn't thought about how it might close.

"But for the sake of thoroughness..."

There's a brief moment's consideration - longer than might typically be necessary for something as simple as closing an eye - and then it... sort of gloops shut. It's likely not particularly pleasant to watch, but it does still count as it having shut. Even if it should be in a rather unorthodox manner.
